Our Challenge
Plinth & Pavilion is a contemporary family residence defined by structural clarity and refined material transitions. Composed as two distinct yet connected forms — a grounded masonry plinth and a lightweight timber pavilion above — the home responds directly to its sloping site while delivering generous, light-filled living spaces.
Our Solution
Plinth & Pavilion is a contemporary family home designed as two distinct yet connected forms — a grounded masonry base and a lightweight timber pavilion above. Built on a sloping site, the project balances structural complexity with architectural restraint, creating generous light-filled spaces while maintaining a calm and refined street presence.
The home features extensive rock excavation, a large suspended concrete slab over a full basement and garage, and a striking pitched roof form with custom aluminium detailing. A carefully layered palette of Krause brick, roughcast render and Australian hardwood cladding reinforces the architectural hierarchy, while precise coordination between structure, façade and metalwork ensured clean lines and seamless material transitions throughout.
Designed to maximise natural light, ventilation and long-term durability, the project demonstrates the integration of structural engineering, craftsmanship and environmental performance within a highly resolved residential build. Plinth & Pavilion showcases how complex construction and refined detailing can come together to create an enduring and elegant family home.
